New CUDA driver from Nvidia 5.0.36

Just a quick post,

Nvidia have posted a new version of CUDA drivers for the Mac here

The version number is 5.0.36


New in Release 5.0.36
  • Adds support for GeForce GT 650M.
  • Support for MacOS 10.8 Mountain Lion
Known Issues
• There is a known issue in this release where forcing or allowing the system to go to sleep while running CUDA applications on 2012 MacBook Pro models with automatic graphics switching will cause a system crash (kernel panic). You can prevent the computer from automatically going to sleep by setting the Computer Sleep option slider to Never in the Energy Saver pane of the System Preferences.
• There is a known issue in this release where CUDA applications will not automatically engage the discrete GPU on 2012 MacBook Pro models with automatic graphics switching. To run CUDA applications, it is necessary to uncheck the Automatic Graphics Switching checkbox in the Energy Saver pane of the System Preferences.
    1. Double -click on CUDADriver-5.0.36-macos.dmg
    2. Click Continue on the CUDA 5.0 Installer Welcome screen
    3. Click Continue after you read the License Agreement and then click Agree
    4. Click Install on the Standard Install Screen. You will be required to enter an Administrator password
    5. Once you see the Successful Installation screen, your install is complete. No restart is required
I have not had a chance to install them yet. Let me know if you do.

    Dear Neil,
    My name is David, for France. I just bought a MAC pro version 2007 with standard graphic card inside. For the moment, is not completely ready. I prepare a new install of OSX 10.8. and looking for change 2 x Xeon 2.0 by 2 x Xeon 3.0 12Mb and adding memory ( 12 Gb ). I'm interesting to adding a graphic card, and follow your recommandation, the GTX 660Ti.
    I have 2 questions. Do you know if the card can be run on 2007 model without modification ?
    Do you know if it's necessary to use EVGA model ? I mean, it's too easy for me for find ASUS or MSI model.

      Hi David,
      If this is a Mac Pro 1.1 or 1.2 I'm not sure it will work. Can you check the model number in system information?

      Neil,
      Well, it seem is dead, because Moutain Lion dont want to start the install :/
      It's really impossible to use this drivers on Lion ? ( not mountain Lion )

      Hi David,

      Nvidia did release drivers for Lion 10.7.5
      You can download them here:
      http://www.nvidia.com/object/macosx-295.00.05f02-driver.html
      However, these are only supposed to be for Mac Pro 3.1 and up.

      You will find information on how to install the drivers on your Mac Pro

    These driver doesnt work on Davinci 9.0.2 - stay with 5.0.17

      Hi Andre,
      What makes you say that? Blackmagic specifically mention the 5.0.36 drivers in the requirements for Resolve 9.02

      • Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion or Mac OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion
      • 12 GB of system memory is recommended and 8 GB is the minimum
      supported
      • Blackmagic Design Desktop Video version 9.5 or later
      • CUDA Driver version 5.0.36
      • NVIDIA Driver version – As specified by your GPU card installer
